the signs were there to suggest this was going to be a big one. White Horse Ceilidhs in Grove Village Hall
have been going from strength to strength with near sellouts for the last
three events. And what a climax it
turned out to be as Folk for MS hosted Whapweasel, BBC Radio 2s best dance
band, with one of the most well known national callers, Gordon Potts! They
certainly lived up to their reputations.
Old Mill Hall was packed with people who couldn’t help but dance to
the melodeon melodies, saxophone harmonies and trombone riffs. With 8 musicians on stage, their
innovative arrangements mixing folk, rock, ska and jazz made compelling
listening. The
lads from Grove Scouts proved excellent stewards in their official WHC T
shirts and with one barrel each from local microbreweries ‘West Berkshire
Brewery’ and ‘Best Mates Brewery’ of Ardington, the real Ale lovers were in
for a treat. Local
Rapper Sword team Mabel Gubbins amazed the crowd with a slick display during
the half time interval and with a record turn out we raised £650 for FfMS. Well done, and a huge thanks to every one
involved. Review of the 2007 FfMS / White Horse Ceilidh |
